7 Reasons Why You Should Always Prototype (Or At Least Wireframe)
Wireframes & prototypes didn´t use to be a priority for IT professionals. But as the IT industry develops, it becomes essential to build websites or apps on solid foundations. Here comes a non-exhaustive list of why we should all be using wireframes and prototypes more often.
We speak different languages
Imagine an English developer having to explain a future website to his client, a chinese businessman… I think this speaks for itself. But we don´t need get to such extremes, the very same word can have different meanings for people that speak the same language. But simply because they have different backgrounds they won´t intend the same things behind a common concept.
We need to visual the future product
An image is worth a 1000 words! This is actually why we wireframe in the first place (and incidentally, reading all the specs doc of a future website is a pain, I wonder how many actually do it). Even if it´s only a sketchy wireframe, at least everybody sees where is what and how it looks like.
Clear up your ideas
Get things clear! Wireframes and prototypes help you to organise and share your idea avoiding misunderstanding. You´ll see what´s possible and what´s not.
Save time (it´s quick)
Because with a prototype in hands, you know what to expect as a final outpout. Hence prototyping will save you time during development and avoids rework being done too. A prototype is also quickly shared & commented among collegues and you can apply ongoing changes to it so you see in real-time what´s being done.
… and money (it´s cheap)
Time is money, everybody knows it! Whether it´s on conception, design or development, saving time most certainly means less man-month! Plus, the whole point of a prototype is to save time, so it´s usually developed using cheaper & easier technologies than the one that will be used for the final product.
Anyone can do it
No need to be a high-profile developer to do a prototype. Actually, it´s quite the opposite. If you want to build a good user interface, you might want to ask a UX designer, or designer to build what usually a simple HTML prototype. Moreover, with high-fidelity prototyping softwares, everybody can create fully functional prototypes without a single line of coding.
Run user testing before development
This is probably the main advantage of prototyping! Prototyping the UI of a website or an app lets you carry out user tests before developing the final thing. This is also a big difference between functional prototypes and static wireframes, as the latest doesn’t allow you to do this.
All in all, although wireframes are very useful when it comes to define and analyse a website or an application, these arguments shows that it´s best to prototype. Prototyping will “fluidifies” all processes of any IT project, from design to development and testing. With RIA & dynamic websites the need for prototyping will be increasingly present.

Tip: KISS – keep it simple, stupid
Flowcharts don’t necessarily need all information you’ll have on your website: just what’s crucial. You’ll have more information on your homepage than described, but obviously, you just need the things you think your users will need less. Launching a new product is the need of the hour of companies if they want to survive in today’s competition. A Birthday Party with airplane theme
My son’s sixth birthday party, he has chosen a theme aircraft.
INVITATIONS:
We paid a great idea for this site and made up to look like the airlines pass. My husband designed a logo, blue and green for the Camden air and on the second page will provide information about additional flights and limitations (e.g. a cake and a snack bar) and a note to contact an officer to Ticket confirm or cancel the reservation of the command receiver or additional tickets to an “unaccompanied minor.” We used a matrix for police investigators and the incorporation of different code numbers for our son’s birth date and that was a lot. We received tons of compliments on the invitations.
Decorations:
Has proven to be a topic on which relatively hard to find party supplies pre-printed (paper plates, etc) all that is available is geared to military jet and did not want. So we went with solid party goods light blue and white (the sky and clouds). I found some patterns of heaven and cardboard tag “strip” means that the limits of school boards and ad paper charts sky and clouds, and put stickers on a plane these questions and used them as decoration in walls.
COSTUMES:
My son had a t-shirt with an airplane on it (the party in the colors blue white and yellow) and a pilot hat I bought with some supplies.
As guests arrived, I gave each a bag with a luggage tag attached (labels decorate your Oriental Trading) has explained that it takes to keep their luggage with them to make things different and invited them to customize your labels and a bag with markers and stickers that were on the dining table. Also foam airplane craft kits and an assortment of scrapbook paper modeling to make paper airplanes were there. We have also created an “airport” on top of our table of trains that use a black ribbon on a surface to expose the runways and a helipad and turn all the toys we have for free play.
Shortly after everyone arrived, I gathered everyone around the table to find a rail-air-cloud by activity. I removed the top surface (the table has a double layer with an upper surface that stands next to a deep “and” below, but you can use a large pool or otherwise) to reveal any table full of peanuts packing Styrofoam.
When all was found at least a few cars, we decided to up and warned all those who have paper airplane if they had not already done so. We built a mobile “track”, a piece of cardboard covered with black paper and tape. We set out on the lawn in the backyard (because there happened to be the weather that day) and had children take turns trying to land on runways paper airplanes.
Snacks:
The party was in the afternoon, so we just had a snack service “instead of a full meal. A big bowl of pretzels, vegetables with dip, crackers and slices of meat and cheese cut into shapes using airplane cookie cutter. Juice boxes for children and some soft drinks for adults.
CAKE:
After the piñata, we served the cake. I made a huge cake airliner 3D shape for the party. I used white rubber Chiclets type for windows and gumdrops for lights jujube and icing for the stripes and Camden Air “name over 6 large on the tail. Because the plane did not cake landing gear visible, I decided to pretend that they were flying so I printed an “aerial view” of our city from Google Earth on several sheets of ledger paper, we have glued on a piece of cardboard and covered everything with plastic wrap and it was the cake table.

Forming metal refers to the process of taking a piece of metal in one form and manipulating it into a new shape. Metal is formed without adding or taking anything away from the original shape. Dump the chamber after every vacuuming session. When I first bought my Rainbow vac, I made the mistake of leaving the water in the chamber for several days at a time, reasoning that it wasn’t “dirty enough” to empty. It didn’t take long at all for the evaporating moisture to mildew up inside the machinery. Emptying the chamber after vacuuming prevents mildew from forming in these areas.
Let the vacuum run without the water chamber for a minute or so for a speedy air dry.. This tip came from my Rainbow Vacuum repair guy who suggested air drying the machine after vacuuming. Air drying is done by removing the water chamber and then turning on the power for a minute. Metals come from mineral bearing rocks known as ores. This video documents our Daft Punk Helmet build from start to finish. The plastic parts were modeled in SolidWorks and then printed on 3 3D printers. The visor was vacuum formed in my kitchen over a CNC machined mold. We used express PCB to build the circuit boards and are running a PIC 16F on each half of the helmet. Virtual Reality in Medicine – many evolving uses and advantages
Virtual reality techniques, involving three-dimensional imaging and surround sound, are increasingly being used in diagnosis, treatment, and medical education. Initial applications of virtual reality in medicine involved visualization of the complex data sets generated by computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. A recent application of these techniques for diagnostic purposes has been the “virtual colonoscopy,” in which data from a contrast-enhanced abdominal CT scan is used to make a “fly-through” of the colon. Radiologists then use this fly-through for colon cancer screening. Recent improvements in methodology have brought the sensitivity and specificity of this technique closer to the levels of optical colonoscopy, and patients prefer the technique to the traditional method.
Virtual reality has also been used extensively to treat phobias (such as a fear of heights, flying and spiders) and post-traumatic stress disorder. This type of therapy has been shown to be effective in the academic setting, and several commercial entities now offer it to patients. In one of my projects using the multi-user virtual reality environment offered by Second Life, one of several easily available online virtual reality environments, we have used a virtual psychosis environment to teach medical students about the auditory and visual hallucinations suffered by patients with schizophrenia.
Virtual reality has been used to provide medical education about healthcare responses to emergencies such as earthquakes, plane crashes and fires. While the primary advantage in phobia treatment is a “safe environment” which patients can explore, the primary advantage in emergency preparedness is simulation of events that are either too rare or too dangerous for effective real-world training. The immersive nature of the virtual reality experience helps to recreate the sense of urgency or panic associated with these events.
Virtual reality programs have also been used for a variety of medical emergency, mass casualty, and disaster response training sessions for medical and public health professionals. One study developed a protocol for training physicians to treat victims of chemical-origin mass casualties as well as victims of biological agents using simulated patients. Although it was found that using standardized patients for such training was more realistic, the computer-based simulations afforded a number of advantages over the live training. These included increased cost effectiveness, the opportunity to conduct the same training sessions over and over to improve skills, and the ability to use “just-in-time” learning techniques and experience the training session at any time and location, while adjusting the type and level of expertise required to use the training for various emergency response professionals. Others have explored the potential for training emergency responders for major health emergencies using virtual reality. Their objective was to increase exposure to life-like emergency situations to improve decision-making and performance and reduce psychological distress in a real health emergency.
Experience with recent natural disasters and terrorist acts has shown that good communication and coordination between responders is vital to an effective response. In my work using Second Life to develop a virtual mass disaster emergency clinic to hand out antibiotics to the population following a massive anthrax bioterrorism attack, we have found a number of important advantages of the virtual world, over the real world, for training first responders.
Responders to such events come from many different organizations, including fire, police, military, and hospital personnel. There are three major difficulties in training and evaluating these first responders in the real world:
1. They have little or no chance to train together before the event occurs and hence lack teamwork skills.
2. What training they may have had comes at great cost, in large part due to the effort and need to transport so many people to a specific training site at a specific time.
3. The training sites frequently cannot be the most common targets – for example, one cannot shut down the Golden Gate Bridge during rush hour to train for an earthquake or terror scenario.
Virtual reality offers some intriguing advantages over the real world for these aspects of first responder training, as all of the above difficulties can be overcome. Virtual reality systems can support multiple simultaneous users, each connecting to the system using standard office personal computers and broadband Internet access. Lifelike models of buildings, roads, bridges, and other natural and man-made structures where the users can interact can be constructed. Finally, the whole scenario can be digitally preserved and a full workflow analysis can be performed retrospectively. Public health officials and first-responders can work through the scenarios as many times as they like to familiarize themselves with the workflow and emergency protocols, without encumbering the time and expense of organizing a mock emergency in real life.
Virtual Reality treatments are rapidly becoming more available. They are currently being used to treat post-traumatic stress disorders caused by wartime experiences, and US servicemen are now increasingly being offered such programs. Rather than the traditional method of confronting old nightmares, online technology is able to deliver treatment in a far more therapeutic and humane way. Patients are “transported” to the battlefront and fears and traumas are resolved in virtual place and real time. Virtual Reality is here to stay, and will increasingly be used widely in a number of areas of healthcare.

3D CAD modeling has taken over the days of the ordinary draftsmen and his drafting table. With an array of tools at the fingertips of the CAD drafter the drafting board doesn’t have a chance. Believe me though I’m not extremely excited or anything, I actually grew up using one of these and that’s the reason why I’m in the drafting field now. Technology with 3D CAD models is just going to get more advanced, and user friendly as time goes on. More sophisticated designs will be produced, and the software will make the job easier for draftsmen.
